Repent

Much of the time I know if what I’ve done was wrong, or when I’ve wronged someone by not acting when I could have. Other times it is very hard to admit or even to recognize what I have done. But doing that, I think, is an essential part of repentance. Learning from our mistakes is necessary to avoid repeating them, even though we can never perfect ourselves in this no longer perfect world.

God knows what we have done, for good or otherwise, even without us telling him. Either way, he loves us and wants us to want to be with him. Yes, we are saved by faith, but when our belief in him is healthy we will own up to our actions and turn to him instead of turning away by clinging to ways that are not his ways. In other words, when we repent.

James 4:8a Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

John 3:17 Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

And he will come again.  Why is it taking what seems so long for him to return?  He knows we are not ready, that some among us may yet repent.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. Phil Brownfield #repent #adventword
